Wednesday Night Mainland Division Showdown

The Express kickoff a 3 game in 5 night stretch this Wednesday night against the Prince George Spruce Kings. It’s an important week for the Express (14-13-0-2) currently sit 3rd in the Mainland Division. They’re chasing the Spruce Kings (17-9-2-2) who sit 8 points in front of the Express.

Coquitlam owns the winning record in the all-time head-to-head with a record of 14-13-0-1. These teams met twice back in September, with Prince George taking both games in Coquitlam.

Prince George pulled out a 3-2 victory on September 27th, thanks in large part to the performance of PG forward Jake LeBrun, who recorded 3 assists in the victory. The teams had a rematch 2 days later, where the Spruce Kings prevailed 4-3 in overtime. As he has done most of the season, Adam Rockwood led the offensive charge for the Express in those two games, assisting on all 5 Express goals. Corey Mackin lit up the score sheet as well, recorded a goal and 2 assists in the latter game.

Coquitlam fans have been treated to the best offensive team in the BCHL, as the Express have put up 118 goals in 29 games.  Rockwood (7G, 31A), Ryan Rosenthal (19G, 17A) and Canon Pieper (15G, 15A) all reside in the top 20 in league scoring.

Fans can expect a strong defensive game from the Spruce Kings who have the 3rd fewest goals against in the BCHL (75). They’re led by goaltender Jesse Jenks who has the 2nd best goals against average (2.34) and is 4th in save percentage (92.0%). Chad Staley (#22) leads the Prince George squad with 15 goals and 19 assists while defenseman Chris Weidauer (#7) has 8 goals and 18 assists, 3rd among defensemen in the BCHL.

Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30pm on Wednesday, December 4th at the Poirier Sport & Leisure Complex. Fans can contact the Express Office for a special “Hat-Trick Wednesday” ticket that includes a hamburger, drink & ticket to the game for $15.
