JON CALVANO NAMED COQUITLAM EXPRESS HEAD COACH
The Coquitlam Express are pleased to announce today that Jon Calvano hasbeen named Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations of the Junior ?A?Hockey Club.
Jon, 33 years old, has been the Head Coach of the North West Giants inthe British Columbia Major Midget Hockey League for the past four years. He has had great success – winning the lasttwo Provincial Major Midget Championships and also the prestigious 2010 Mac?sMajor Midget AAA tournament. Jon hasalso been the Hockey Director at the Burnaby Winter Club the past three yearsand been involved with the Vancouver Vipers Spring AAA programs for the past tenyears. In 2008, Jon was awarded the BCAmateur Hockey Associations ?Coach of the Year?.
The selection of Jon was done by a four member committee of the Expressownership group, consisting of – Pat Delesalle, Brian Hannigan, Rob Lambie andDarcy Rota. The group conducted anextensive search and received over forty applications for the position, fromcoaches all over North America.
President and General Manager Darcy Rota commented ?We are very happy tohave Jon join our team, I have known himfor a number of years and believe his player development skills and commitmentto excellence are a great fit as we move the team home to Coquitlam.?
Jon stated,? I am very grateful to the Coquitlam Express organization forthis opportunity and am excited about the challenge of coaching in theBCHL. I have followed the league veryclosely for many years and look forward to developing players and building achampionship team in Coquitlam.?
Jon?s initial duties will be meeting with allreturning Express players, finalizing recruits for the upcoming season, andpreparing for the Express Prospect Camp May 7-9.
