Snowplowed. Clippers 4 – Express 1

The Nanaimo Clippers came to town on this snowy Sunday in Coquitlam and took the W 4-1 over the Express in our afternoon battle.

The Clippers started off hot with Jérémie Payant opening the scoring with an unconventional goal from the right corner of the Express’ defensive zone that snuck just past Brady Smith’s pads. The Express quickly answered in under 3 minutes with a point shot which was tipped and resulted in the puck finding its way over and past Clippers goaltender, Shane Shelest, to tie the game up after 1.

The Express would come out hot in the 2nd period but all their efforts would go the wrong way. A perfect one timer pass missed the net wide midway through the second and immediately Nanaimo took it back up ice on a 3 on 1 and Kai Daniels scored the go ahead goal, which would ultimately be the winner. Just over 2 minutes after Kai Daniels’ put up his first he followed up with his second to extend their lead to 2 and then not even 30 seconds later Nanaimo was back down the ice and they scored again from a beautiful pass from Charles Tardif right into the slot to feed Luca Grabas and extend the lead to 4-1.

It was an energetic 3rd period but both the Express and Clippers failed to find the board and get pucks past Shelest and Manji, who was thrusted into game action after Smith was pulled with 7:06 left in the second.

The Express are back in action against the Surrey Eagles on Wednesday, March 1st at 7pm here at the Train Station.
